The film adaptation of the popular sci-fi role-playing game Borderlands was released in North America on August 9th. Unfortunately, the film was dealt a blow by critics. It received only a 33 on Metracritic and a very low 0% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This poor start was reflected in the film’s box office performance, and the decision was made to release it on digital platforms after just three weeks.
Borderlands was removed three weeks after its release! It will try its luck on digital platforms
The film will be available digitally on Friday, August 30 on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play. The quick transition is, of course, a result of the film’s disappointing performance at the box office. The film earned just $8.8 million in its first weekend, was described as “ disgraceful ” by Variety magazine, and only finished fourth at the North American box office.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film has grossed just $24 million worldwide to date , well below its $115 million production budget and an additional $ 30 million in marketing costs.
Borderlands is about the return of Lilith, played by Cate Blanchett, to the planet Pandora. Lilith embarks on a challenging journey to find a missing girl and meets unexpected allies in the process. The film also stars famous names such as Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black .
Unfortunately, this star cast and the story based on the popular game series did not receive the expected attention from the audience. The film’s score on IMDB is 4.3 and on Douban it is 4.6. What do you think? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
